Manchester United to make history at Old Trafford tonight

Ruben Amorim’s men have seemingly steadied into a rhythm after a rocky start, putting together a five-match unbeaten run to climb into the top half of the Premier League table. Performances have tightened, but the bigger picture still shows a season without European football and the knock-on effects around revenue, rotation and rhythm.

With no continental fixtures, United’s midweeks have been largely clear, leading to players like Kobbie Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee, as well as a host of fringe talent lacking the opportunity to take to the pitch with squad rotation

Financially, with £100 million missed by not qualifying for the Champions League, the club have leaned into alternative income streams, post-season and pre-season tours, talk of mid-season friendlies in Saudi Arabia, and even opened fresh avenues like paid trips to visit Carrington being bolted on to the Old Trafford stadium tours from June 2026, marking the first time the new £50 million development will be open to the public.

However, in a moment of history tonight, the spotlight points towards Old Trafford and the women’s team.

Manchester United Women are in their debut UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) season, and will host Paris Saint-Germain in a first-ever home match at Old Trafford tonight, Wednesday 12th November, kicking-off 20:00 GMT.

It’s a milestone staged at the home woven into United’s European identity, from the Busby Babes and 1968, to the Champions League triumphs under Sir Alex Ferguson and the historic 1999 treble, now adding a landmark for Marc Skinner’s side.

So far, United have started their campaign with two wins from two; PSG have lost both of theirs, making this a chance to all but secure at least next year’s play-off spot before heavyweight tests against Wolfsburg and Lyon in the first phase.

Club messaging around the fixture has framed it as both occasion and platform: a statement night at Old Trafford and an opportunity to push focus to the women’s side. The team’s rise since launching in 2018 has brought bigger stages and higher standards; with a European night at the stadium being the next logical step.
