Manchester United’s recent rebuild has involved tough choices, with several familiar players moving on as the club reshaped its squad.

Some departures seemed necessary at the time, even if the long-term effects were not immediately clear.

Recently, questions have come up about whether certain exits might be revisited.

Not every story ends when a player leaves Old Trafford, especially when they perform well elsewhere.

One former midfielder’s situation is now attracting more attention than many expected.

That player was Scott McTominay, who left Manchester in search of a new challenge and quickly became a key figure at his new club.

His impact was instant; his role was clear and his influence was undeniable from the start.

What followed was a resurgence that often prompts clubs to revisit old discussions.

Scott McTominay joined Napoli in 2024 for £25.7 million.

He signed a four-year deal in Italy and quickly became a fan favorite, winning the Serie A title in his debut season.

He ended that campaign with 13 goals and six assists, performances that earned him the league’s MVP award.

This season, the 29-year-old has already recorded 14 goal contributions, showing his value in Naples and highlighting how crucial he has become to the project.

Despite this output, McTominay reportedly earns around £90,000 per week, a figure that raised eyebrows given his current status and performances.

However, that wage reflected his position at the time he joined rather than his present impact.

Napoli is reportedly discussing a new contract, with talks underway to address his rise within the squad.

It’s said that his agent, Colin Murdock, has met with club officials to look into an extension through to 2030, with an option for an additional year.

McTominay’s current deal runs until 2028, but interest from other clubs, including Manchester United, has prompted Napoli to act quickly.

A new contract would effectively put an end to any short-term speculation about a return to Old Trafford.

However, United’s interest in the situation hasn’t completely faded.

As part of the original transfer deal, United included a 10 percent sell-on clause in McTominay’s contract, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.

That means any future move, whether due to renewed interest or a decision to sell, would still benefit United financially.

While McTominay’s career continues to thrive away from Manchester, the Red Devils remain invested in what happens next.
