AS Roma visit Old Trafford on Tuesday, November 3, for a UEFA Champions League league-phase clash with Manchester United. Michael Carrick’s side will look for a positive result after a poor run of form, while Gian Piero Gasperini’s Roma will look to keep their impressive form going in England.
There have been a couple of positive fitness reports for United ahead of the match, but a number of first-team players are still unavailable. Meanwhile, Roma have to deal with the lack of some key attacking and midfield players.
The kickoff will be at 8 p.m. GMT (3 p.m. ET).
Patrick Dorgu has returned to full training after missing the previous match due to a hamstring injury but will not be fit for the match against Roma. Carrick has admitted that the Danish international requires more time before he can return to competitive action.
The manager has also ruled Luke Shaw out for the rest of the week. Marcus Rashford is still a question mark, and his recovery is being monitored on a day-to-day basis.
Benjamin Sesko and Manuel Ugarte are also injured. The good news is that Leny Yoro is available after suffering from a tendon problem. Lisandro Martinez is also in the mix, as his suspension from the Chelsea match is for the Premier League and not the European competition.
Goalkeeper Mile Svilar, Paolo Dybala, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Manu Kone are all unavailable for Manchester, so Roma are traveling without them.
Gollini is expected to replace Svilar in goal, while Gianluca Mancini is expected to be the starting defender.
Donyell Malen is expected to be the main attacker, while Matias Soule and Bryan Cristante will be in advanced roles.
Manchester United confirmed starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Lammens, Dalot, Heaven, Maguire, Yoro, Mainoo, Baleba, Matheus Cunha, Fernandes, Diallo, Mbeumo.
Substitutes: Darlow, Heaton, Amass, De Ligt, Martinez, Mazraoui, Santos, Mount, T Fletcher, Tielemans, Lacey, Zirkzee.
Roma confirmed starting (3-4-2-1): Vasquez, Hermoso, Mancini, Balerdi, Wesley, Mora, De Roon, Rensch, Cristante, Soule, Malen
Roma substitutes: De Marzi, Castro, Di Nunzio, Ghilardi, Koulierakis, Lulli, Molina, Ndicka, Pisilli
It will be up to both managers to make the best of what they have to work with, with United hoping to make the most of home advantage and Roma hoping to make the most of the hosts’ inconsistent form.
