Manchester United are interested in a summer deal for Inter Milan star Davide Frattesi

Manchester United’s rebuilding process under Ruben Amorim is progressing cautiously but steadily, as the board continues to scout the market in search of new midfield reinforcements. With Casemiro nearing an exit and Christian Eriksen’s contract set to expire, the need for fresh, youthful talent in midfield has become increasingly urgent.

The ideal profile is clear: a player with technical quality, energy, and attacking intent, someone capable of contributing in both phases of the game. In this context, the name of Davide Frattesi is surfacing more frequently. Although the Premier League is not currently among the Italian’s top priorities, United’s interest remains strong.

According to Swiss journalist Sacha Tavolieri via Sky Sports, the Red Devils are among several European clubs keeping a close eye on Frattesi’s situation. The 25-year-old midfielder is reportedly considering leaving Inter Milan this summer following Simone Inzaghi’s departure and a season marked by limited game time. Despite having a contract until 2028 and being only a year into his Inter stint, Frattesi has authorised his agents to explore new opportunities. Still, Tavolieri notes that his preference is to stay in Serie A. Napoli, under new manager Antonio Conte, are believed to be leading the race and are eager to make Frattesi a central figure in their midfield. Inter, meanwhile, are said to be open to letting him go for around €35 million.

If United are serious about signing Frattesi, they must be prepared to go against the grain. The midfielder isn’t pushing for a move abroad, and his reluctance could complicate any deal. The real question is whether he’s worth the chase. Amorim is looking for motivated reinforcements, players who are not only tactically suitable but also fully committed to the project.

The club would be better served directing its resources toward players who view Old Trafford as their ideal destination. Investing €35 million in a player who hasn’t established himself as a regular starter at Inter Milan carries inherent risks. While Frattesi undoubtedly possesses talent, he has yet to demonstrate that he can be the driving force of a project outside Italy.

This makes the potential deal a significant gamble. With Napoli actively pursuing him, United would need to not only present a compelling sporting project but also promise him an immediate and influential role. If they can achieve that and Frattesi is willing to take the leap, the move could pay off. However, pursuing him without any clear commitment on his part could prove to be a costly misstep. At this stage, United need dependable solutions, not speculative signings.
