Manuel Appiah Boakye officially signs for Manchester United

Manchester United’s summer transfer window may have closed, but the club have still managed to sign Manuel Appiah Boakye.

Michael Carrick was handed a completely reshaped midfield before the deadline.

Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba all arrived to give United greater control, athleticism and depth in the middle of the pitch.

United also explored further business late in the window, particularly at left-back.

However, they ultimately failed to get another deal over the line before the deadline passed.

That does not mean recruitment completely stops, with free agents still able to sign outside the transfer window and academy business often continuing on a different timetable.

United had also been in talks with Leicester City on deadline day over Louis Page.

However, that proposed move did not materialise before the window shut.

Despite missing out on that deal, another midfielder from Leicester City has arrived.

Manchester United complete another midfield signing

Manuel Appiah Boakye has now officially signed for Manchester United after leaving Leicester City’s academy setup.

The youngster confirmed the move on Instagram, posting pictures from Old Trafford after putting pen to paper with the club.

Boakye joins United as an Under-15 player and is regarded as a box-to-box midfielder, meaning his arrival is very much one for the long-term rather than an addition to Michael Carrick’s senior squad.

His signing also continues a recent connection between United and Leicester, with the Red Devils having pursued Louis Page before the transfer deadlune.

Page had been viewed as a more advanced academy target after already gaining senior experience.

Meanwhile, Boakye arrives at a much earlier stage of his development.

United have placed significant emphasis on adding high-potential youngsters in recent years, attempting to bring players into Carrington before their values and profiles explode elsewhere.

For Boakye, the move now gives him the opportunity to develop inside one of English football’s most famous academy systems.

His next challenge will be establishing himself within United’s youth structure before gradually progressing through the age groups towards Under-18 and, eventually, senior football.
