Manchester United’s midfield situation continues to shift as the club works through key decisions ahead of the summer window.
With changes expected across the squad, attention is now firmly on which players will stay and who could be moved on to fund the next phase of recruitment.
The situation around Manuel Ugarte is one of the key talking points, especially as the club weighs up both incoming and outgoing moves in midfield.
The Uruguayan’s long-term place at Old Trafford has come under increasing scrutiny, and reports suggest he is among those who could be moved on as part of the rebuild.
Manuel Ugarte only arrived at Manchester United in 2024 from Paris Saint-Germain on a five-year contract with an option for a further year, but his impact has not fully matched expectations.
Now, his future has taken another twist after reports emerged that he has been offered to AC Milan, although no official negotiations are currently taking place between the clubs.
Nicolo Schira claims, via X, the midfielder has been offered to the Italian side, adding another layer of intrigue given Ruben Amorim’s involvement in his past development.
Amorim previously worked closely with Ugarte at Sporting CP and is now understood to be unveiled as AC Milan’s head coach, which could influence whether the Italian club pursue the deal further.
At this stage, the move remains only an initial proposal rather than a concrete negotiation, but it is already being monitored closely across Europe.
Ugarte has also attracted interest elsewhere, with reports saying that he is one of the players United could consider moving on this summer.
Galatasaray have previously been credited with strong interest, while Juventus were also said to have been offered the chance to sign him in recent discussions.
Despite speculation around his future, Ugarte recently opened up about his situation and mindset heading into the next phase of his career.
“The World Cup is going to be crucial in determining everything. I’m open to whatever comes.
“This year wasn’t great in every sense, but I learned a lot mentally, I was surrounded by good people, and I’m trying to take the positives from it.
“We’ll see what happens at the World Cup. Whatever happens, I think it will be good,” he said.
He also made clear his respect for his current club, adding, “Manchester United is one of the best clubs in the world.”
With multiple clubs now circling and United preparing midfield changes, Ugarte’s situation is one to watch closely as the transfer window develops.
