Marcus Rashford abuser faces significant jail time

Marcus Rashford has had a massive return to form since joining Barcelona in summer 2025.

Fresh off his loan spell with Aston Villa, the Manchester United attacker found himself landing a dream move, going on loan to Camp Nou.

Already this season, Rashford has scored 10 goals and grabbed 13 assists in 35 games, even helping the La Liga champions win the Supercopa.

Only sitting behind Lamine Yamal in goal contributions, the 28-year-old is now on the brink of a permanent move, with Barca looking to trigger his buy clause.

When agreeing the season-long loan, an optional buy clause was included for £26 million, dramatically less than the £40 million option given to Villa.

Now, the England international looks set to remain in Barcelona, however it hasn’t all been plain sailing.

Back in September, Barcelona travelled to take on Real Oviedo, beating the 17th-place side 3-1 at the Carlos Tartiere stadium.

Sealing the win, Marcus Rashford whipped in a corner in the 88th, with defender Ronald Araujo heading it into the back of the net.

However, when taking the corner, Marcus Rashford came up against racial abuse, with racist insults including the N-word being shouted at the attacker.

The abuse was recorded by a nearby fan and was uploaded to social media, getting millions of views.

Now, FootMundo has reported that the 19-year-old in question is facing significant jail time for the abuse.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Principality of Asturias have requested a 15-month jail sentence for the Real Oviedo fan.

Alongside the jail time, a €2,880 fine has been requested as well as compensation of €2,000.

Whilst this is only the request of the prosecution, rather than the punishment received for the abuse, it shows the intent of the prosecution to ensure the abuse is held to account.
