Marcus Rashford rejuvenated himself away from Manchester United, but a permanent move to Barcelona is in jeopardy.
Marcus Rashford accepted a loan move to F.C. Barcelona this summer, as his opportunities with Manchester United continued to dwindle.
And while Rashford has found success with the Blaugrana, he isn’t going to make it easy for them to sign him long-term.
According to Spanish outlet El Nacional, Marcus Rashford’s future with Barcelona is in great jeopardy, for a wide variety of reasons.
First, Rashford has lost his starting spot, as wingers Lamine Yamal and Raphinha have made their return from injury.
Despite playing well, Rashford isn’t a guaranteed starter for the team. And as such, Barcelona don’t want to pay him a starter’s salary.
Rashford accepted a 25% pay cut to join the team, earning £12.1 million in gross salary. However, should Barcelona choose to sign him on a permanent basis, Rashford will not accept a pay cut.
This is why Barcelona sporting director Deco and president Joan Laporta are skittish about making Rashford’s loan a permanent transfer by paying Manchester United the £30.3 million transfer fee.
Marcus Rashford impressed a lot of Barcelona fans when he accepted a pay cut to join them and try to earn back his reputation with a new team.
However, if Rashford reverts to his original demand, Barcelona are going to refuse to sign him, and he will have to return to Manchester United.
United found it difficult to find suitors for Rashford, and Ruben Amorim made it clear to him that he would not feature in his future plans going forward.
These demands could make it so that United won’t be able to offload Rashford next summer, and have him on the books as a financial burden.
