Martin O’Neill was yesterday confirmed as the interim manager of Celtic Football Club following the departure of Brendan Rodgers after two and a half years at the club where he delivered two titles, a Scottish Cup and a Premier League Sports League Cup to add to the seven trophies he won during his first spell in charge.
Martin O’Neill is here to steady the ship at Celtic, motivate the team and win some football matches, none more important than the game in the Scottish Premiership this evening against Falkirk. Celtic find themselves in the unusual position of being eight points behind the top side Hearts following the 3-1 defeat at Tynecastle on Sunday afternoon.
Derek McInnes’ side are away to St Mirren this evening the play Dundee at Tynecastle at the weekend while Celtic are on League Cup duties facing theRangers at Hampden in the semifinal.
Tonight is simply a must win match for Celtic as the club continues its search for a new manager. Ahead of the game Martin O’Neill has released this statement shown below where he outlines his role and what he hopes to achieve in his own second spell as manager of Celtic, this time on an interim basis.
The statement from principal shareholder and non-Executive Director Dermot Desmond only poured petrol on the simmering discontent among the Celtic supporters. We will cover this later tonight on The Celtic Star.
