Mason Greenwood is flying right now in French football.

With 11 goals and four assists in 17 games across all competitions, it has been an excellent start to the season for the former Manchester United attacker.

This is in addition to last season, where he recorded over 20 goals for the French side.

Greenwood signed for Marseille for £26.6 million in May 2024, a year after joining La Liga side Getafe on a season long loan.

Despite starting to make a name for himself in a United shirt, issues off the pitch saw a lack of gametime in English football

His return to the pitch has angered many football fans, as have calls for the in form striker to be picked by England manager Thomas Tuchel for their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States of America, Canada and Mexico.

10 of Greenwood’s aforementioned goals this season have come in Ligue 1, a tally that currently has him as the league’s top scorer. He is one goal clear of Strasbourg’s Joaquín Panichelli.

As a result of his status in the league, he will wear the top scorer badge this weekend.

Known as the S1 Badge, this is something that was first introduced in 2023 on a weekly basis. Kylian Mbappe was the first recipient.

Having the bade on your jersey will be a very public way of showing how good of a season Greenwood is having in France, something not many would have predicted when he first arrived at the Ligue 1 side.

Marseille will take on Toulouse on Saturday evening and currently reside in second place in the Ligue 1 table. A win could see them move into first should Paris Saint-Germain draw or lose away to AS Monaco.
