Mason Greenwood has been at the centre of attention since leaving Manchester United permanently just over a year ago.
The 24-year-old, who appeared 129 times for United during his time at Old Trafford, joined Marseille in July of last summer’s transfer window and has scored 33 times since joining the French side.
Furthermore, the former England international snubbed Cristiano Ronaldo upon news that Ronaldo wanted a reunion with the forward.
As well as this, Greenwood rejected an international call-up from Jamaica and is now obssessed with a return to the English national team, even if manager Thomas Tuchel remains stubborn in his stance around this situation.
Back at Marsielle, Mason Greenwood won the Ligue 1 Player of the Month award for October due to his performances for the French outfit.
Now, following these achievements, the 24-year-old’s next actions have seen him spark a major brawl during Marsielle’s Ligue 1 encounter against Nice.
In the match, Greenwood doubled Marseille’s lead with the first of his two goals in the fixture due to a deflected effort.
Following this, Greenwood and his Marseille team-mates celebrated the goal in front of the Nice ultras.
And that’s where things got nasty.
According to French outlet RMC Sport, Marseille defender Emerson Palmieri was struck with a lighter that was thrown by a Nice supporter during the celebrations.
Jeremie Pignard, the match referee, took the lighter to the match delegate and got both sets of players to gather near the touchline.
Then the tensions got raised further.
A brawl broke out between the two sides with Marseille goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli and Nice defender Ali Al-Abdi in the middle of the incident.
Nice had already been angered as a result of a potential foul in the build-up to Greenwood’s goal.
As a result of the incident, both Rulli and Al-Abdi were cautioned for their role in the brawl.
Once the game was restarted, Marseille went on to win the game 5-1 thanks to further goals from Timothy Weah and Igor Paixao.
The result takes Marseille back to the top of Ligue 1, where they sit 1 point ahead of PSG having played one game more.
