Manchester United will be looking to raise funds for transfers this summer, especially following the news that Manuel Ugarte will spend a considerable period on the sidelines.
In midfield is where the major overhaul will be, following the free transfer of Casemiro to Inter Miami and Ugarte’s ligament injury, which has put any chances of a summer transfer away for the Uruguayan to bed.
One player who could be used to boost Manchester United’s transfer kitty is Mason Mount. The 27-year-old started just 12 games in the 2025/26 Premier League season and has struggled to really make any impression since arriving at Old Trafford in 2023.
However, reports that Mount has been actively offered out to AC Milan due to feeling out of place in Michael Carrick’s United project have been clarified.
Manchester Evening News’ Steven Railston reports that there have been no talks between AC Milan and Mason Mount’s camp. He is expected to stay put at Manchester United, and sources close to Mount were “surprised” to read a claim that he had been offered to the Italian club, now managed by Ruben Amorim.
Mount has been training in Spain with an individual coach before United’s players are called back to Carrington to report for pre-season, and wants to get the season off to a good start. If Manchester United are going to bring in significant money for transfers this summer, it’s now looking unlikely to be from the midfield position.
One player who could be cashed in on is Marcus Rashford, who is likely to be on the move, and has had interest from Tottenham Hotspur. Truth be told – United don’t have many valuable assets that they wish to sell.
It appears Mason Mount is likely staying put, which while may some United fans may find disappointing, could be vital. The midfield market is proving tough to navigate this summer for the Red Devils, and their depth in midfield is not vast.
For the 2026/27 season with European football at hand, having a large squad will be important for Michael Carrick’s side.
