Manchester United’s win over Burnley couldn’t have come at a better moment, and the timing of the international break worked in their favour, too — especially after Matheus Cunha left the pitch injured.

Cunha was having one of his unpredictable outings when he went down with what looked like a hamstring problem before half-time.

Ruben Amorim wasted no time in taking him off, and didn’t sound too optimistic about it afterwards.

Cunha pulled out of the Brazil squad to focus on getting fit again, and he’s since posted an update that could be good news for United fans.

Matheus Cunha drops update that Man Utd fans will love

On Sunday night, Matheus Cunha shared a positive update about his recovery from injury via social media. The Brazilian striker posted a photo of himself training with Man Utd, simply captioning it “Work.”

The 25-year-old was left out of Brazil’s squad for March internationals against England and Spain to give him more time to recover from a minor issue picked up at Turf Moor. He is expected to return soon, possibly in time for Man Utd’s clash with Arsenal on March 31st at Old Trafford.

This quick turnaround would have been highly unlikely if not for the international break giving him extra days to rest. Even if he doesn’t start against Arsenal, having him back available gives Ruben Amorim another option in attack as he tries to keep United’s momentum going into April.

Latest on Matheus Cunha’s fitness

Cunha has quickly established himself as a key part of Man Utd’s attack, and it says a lot about both his mentality and quality that he has done so in such a short time.

With Benjamin Sesko still adjusting to life in England, Cunha has stepped into the striker role, performing well even though it isn’t his natural position.

So when he pulled up with what looked like a non-contact muscle injury against Burnley, there was immediate concern throughout Old Trafford.

Posting for the first time since the injury, Cunha shared an encouraging update on Instagram that will be welcomed by United supporters.

Cunha wrote: “What an incredible environment, it’s great to be here. I’ll be back soon, always with joy and gratitude. Thanks for all the messages.”

Cunha saying he’ll be “back soon” suggests he’s already had his injury checked out and it may not be too serious. If he can return in time for the post-break run against Man City, Chelsea and Brentford, that would give United a real lift.

Harry Maguire responded to Cunha’s post with two heart emojis, which is another good sign that there’s confidence within the squad about his recovery.

Ruben Amorim not taking any risks after last season

Injuries have played a role in the struggles of several Manchester United managers since Sir Alex Ferguson left. Whether it’s due to training habits or just bad luck, many at Old Trafford have felt the impact, including Ruben Amorim last season.

Amorim spent much of that campaign working with a threadbare squad, often relying on academy players to fill out the bench. It’s a situation he’s determined to avoid this time around.

This explains why he’s being more cautious now. Matheus Cunha was likely taken off against Burnley before things could get worse. The same careful approach has been seen with Mason Mount, who was substituted at half-time in that match, and with Sesko, who has been eased in slowly.

If this extra caution leads to fewer injuries and better results over the course of the season, no one around Carrington will be complaining.
