Matt Law: Chelsea figure linked to Juventus changes agents

In another interesting off the field piece of news to come out this week, it’s emerged that Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has changed representatives, joining the stable of the original “super agent” Jorge Mendes.

This follows reports linking Maresca with a move back to his native Italy to manage giants Juventus, who are going through an extended period where they’re struggling to compete.

Maresca not pushing to leave just yet

Matt Law’s report on this in the Telegraph makes it very clear that this change of representation doesn’t mean a move is imminent.

As he points out, “Chelsea remain in control of Maresca’s future, as he is under contract until 2029 and the club also have the option to extend his deal by a further year.”

In fact, more recently there was talk about the coach being under pressure after some bad results – although it’s always been maintained by those reporting on the club that he will only be judged at the end of the season, and we see no reason to doubt that now.

Maresca’s profile “has been boosted,” but he’s got a good gig at Stamford Bridge where he can build slowly and steadily and is backed heavily in the transfer market. Expectations will rise slowly, but for now both the coach and his club seem content.

In other news…

Josh Acheampong up some superb defensive numbers in the win over Nottingham Forest, and he’s really looking to have made the step up to a fully trusted Premier League centre back now.

Diego Moreira is another young player we’ve shuffled around in recent years – and there’s a sense we may have cashed in on him too soon when we sold him to sister club Strasbourg, given he’s now being linked with a move back to Stamford Bridge.
