Michel Ange Balikwisha’s agent insists there are actually no talks with Celtic over a potential move…

Brendan Rodgers has reportedly monitored the Royal Antwerp winger for a while, with suggestions that negotiations have been taking place over a possible switch to the Scottish champions.

The Hoops had shown interest in Balikwisha last summer and again in January, but Celtic’s plans stalled when he suffered another injury.

Manager Stef Wils of the Belgian side has fueled talk of an imminent move, stating that a departure for the 24 year old is “very possible.”

With Balikwisha entering the final year of his contract, Antwerp are keen to sell and generate funds to strengthen their squad. However, Celtic’s progress on the deal does not seem to be at an advanced stage.

Jibril Rekkab, who represents the player, revealed that Balikwisha is open to a move, though he confirmed there have been no talks and Celtic would need to lodge an official approach to initiate negotiations.

Speaking via Daily Record, Rakkab said: “Michel-Ange is not closed to the idea of joining Celtic, but the club would still have to come forward. No discussions are underway.”

Following the £16.5 million departure of Nicolas Kuhn to Como, Celtic need one, ideally two wingers through the door and those should be of a priority to Rodgers. Coupled with Jota being injured until next year, it may be one permanent and one loan, but with the competitive season beginning a week on Sunday it is now a matter of urgency.

The low-balling attitude of negotiations is becoming rather tedious. It is now clear Balikwisha is not a priority target, so why don’t we move on to the next?

The clock is ticking, and the manager has already stated on numerous occasions that more quality and reinforcements are necessary. So, back him. It’s that simple.
