Liverpool signed young left back Milos Kerkez this past summer to a lot of fanfare, and while he ended up being overshadowed by moves for Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, and Hugo Ekitike, many were excited to see the Hungarian international in 2025/26.

After breaking out as one of the best left backs in the Premier League for the 2024/25 season, Liverpool were hoping that Kerkez would be the heir to Andrew Robertson, who looked absolutely cooked last season.

Well, just a few games into the season, Kerkez was so bad that many Liverpool fans were already calling for Arne Slot to bench the Bournemouth signing for Robertson.

Fast forward to January 2026, and Kerkez is finally starting to hit his stride for the Reds. Though he gets criticized for not being able to defend, lately, he has been excellent, dribbled past just once in his last five appearances for the club, which is excellent for an attacking left back.

Kerkez just had a great offensive performance despite Liverpool disappointingly drawing Burnley 1-1 in the Premier League. He had two dribbles completed and a whopping six key passes to set his highest mark in a Liverpool jersey, breaking past two key passes per game for the first time.

With much stronger defensive displays and with his offensive outburst despite Liverpool’s struggles, Kerkez is quietly changing the narrative about his time at Liverpool.

He has only been here for a minute, so there is a lot of imprudence. Bournemouth to Liverpool is a big step up, and while he struggled at first with the adjustment, Kerkez is now showing the quality that made him a top Premier League left back last season.
