Liverpool fans breathed a collective sigh of relief this week after an injury update on Mohamed Salah offered welcome news.

The Egyptian forward limped off during the Reds’ 3-1 Premier League victory over Crystal Palace last Saturday. It sparked widespread concern that his nine-year Liverpool career may have come to an unceremonious end.

Thankfully, that now appears not to be the case.

Mohamed Salah avoids full tear of the hamstring; Return to action expected soon

The Liverpool Echo confirmed on Wednesday that Salah is expected to be available to play again before the end of the season. Initially, there were concerns Salah’s hamstring injury was serious and he could potentially miss the remainder of the season.

Now it has been confirmed that “the issue that caused his withdrawal has now been confirmed as a minor muscle injury.” The news will come as an enormous relief to supporters who feared the worst when Salah departed the Anfield pitch slowly.

He took his time to applaud the crowd in what looked like an emotional farewell. Fortunately, the hamstring injury will not bring a premature end to his time playing for the side he joined in 2017.

Mohamed Salah targeting return to action in late May

Unfortunately for Liverpool fans, Mohamed Salah will miss Sunday’s clash at Manchester United. It is anticipated Salah will return to action ahead of 2025-26’s conclusion. The most likely target for his comeback is the season finale at home to Brentford on Sunday, May 24.

That is a fitting stage for his Anfield farewell. Salah could, yet, return to action earlier, with Liverpool travelling to Villa Park on the 17th of May. But with the World Cup looming large, it’s unexpected that Salah will be risked with little at stake for Liverpool.

Virgil van Dijk also expressed confidence in his teammate’s recovery, “Knowing Mo, he is a quick healer.” The update also lifts spirits beyond Merseyside with the whole of Egypt backing Salah ahead of the World Cup.
