Monaco gives Arsenal hopes of transfer windfall in January

Arsenal are one of the clubs with the strongest interest in Folarin Balogun’s future, not because the Gunners want to bring him back into their squad at the end of this season, but because they retain a financial interest in his future.

The striker left Arsenal to join Monaco and was close to returning to the Premier League at the end of the last transfer window, with Everton taking him for a medical in the final hours of the window. The proposed move ultimately failed to materialise.

Arsenal retain an interest

Following his impressive World Cup for the USA, Balogun was expected to change clubs, and Arsenal were keen for that to happen because they retain a stake in his future through a 17.5% sell on clause.

Monaco were determined to sell him during that window, which would have been positive news for Arsenal. However, the move did not happen, leaving the Gunners waiting for another opportunity to benefit from his eventual departure.

According to Standard Sports, the Ligue 1 side remains determined to part ways with Balogun and will try to find him a new club during the January transfer window.
