AS Monaco have provided Manchester United with an opportunity to part ways with Andre Onana during the summer transfer window. United are facing a busy transfer window as they intend to change things drastically under the new boss, Ruben Amorim.

The Red Devils have prioritised the attacking department, but other areas remain a big concern for the club this summer. After the disastrous last season when they finished 15th in the Premier League, United must act ruthlessly during this window.

United are also facing financial problems due to their frivolous past spending and needs to balance their expenses with sales. They cannot neglect any opportunity to sell the senior players who have struggled with inconsistencies in performance in recent seasons.

Onana is one of those struggling players, having been signed by United under Erik ten Hag for £47.2m in 2023. The controversial goalkeeper remains a big talking point for the fanbase, as he has made several high-profile errors since joining.

Before Onana, United had maintained their reliability in at least the goalkeeping position with legendary players serving them for years. Legendary goalkeeper David De Gea succeeded another legend in Edwin van der Sar acted as a reliable pillar in defence.

However, Onana has failed to succeed De Gea, and United have a huge decision to make this summer regarding him. Recent reports suggested that the Red Devils have decided to give another chance to Onana to salvage his United career.

However, according to Sky in Italy (via Sky Sports), Monaco are planning to sign Onana from Man United this summer. At these early stages, United have the opportunity to find a worthy replacement for the Cameroonian international if they opt to sell the player.

There are many surplus players that United want to sell, who are finding it hard to leave the club due to a lack of interest in them. That lack of interest is down to poor past performances and long stagnation at the club.

We think keeping Onana is a big risk, as he has already struggled to prove his worth in two seasons. The Red Devils cannot afford to have another big signing become hard to sell, particularly when there is a club interested in him.
