Joao Palhinha tipped to become a difference-maker in Tottenham Hotspur’s midfield under Thomas Frank next season

Tottenham Hotspur have agreed to sign Joao Palhinha on a season’s loan from Bayern Munich, with the deal for the player including an option to make his move permanent for €30 million.

The Lilywhites will cover full wages of the Portugal international, who is deemed surplus to requirements at Bayern Munich, with Joshua Kimmich, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Leon Goretzka and Konrad Laimer all ahead of him in the pecking order. As per reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano on X, the 30-year-old has passed his medical as a new Spurs player on Friday.

This embarks a new chapter for Joao Palhinha, just a year after he moved to Bayern from Fulham. During his two years at Fulham, he established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League. A tenacious tackler and ball-winner, he protected the Cottagers’ defence extremely well and made it difficult for the opposition attackers to stitch play in the final third.

However, a move to Bayern has just not worked out for the experienced midfielder, failing to cement a starting berth under Vincent Kompany. Now, Palhinha is back to where he ideally belongs- the Premier League- with Spurs giving him the opportunity to rebuild his stock.

Journalist reveals Tottenham feel Palhinha will be a difference-maker in Thomas Frank’s midfield

Now, journalist Dean Jones has given his honest verdict on Palhinha’s potential move to N17 and what the Tottenham officials feel about the player. He has revealed that the North London club’s key decision-makers rate the midfielder very highly, claiming that he will be a good fit in Frank’s system and make a massive difference to his midfield unit.

“Joao Palhinha is open to joining Tottenham. That’s a story that I’ve been writing over the past month. Tottenham really feel this is a good fit for them and adding that bite into the midfield will make a massive difference, that Premier League experience too,” Dean Jones said on the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast.

“Palhinha will be disappointed that his Bayern Munich move didn’t work out, I love Palhinha in terms of a player.”

Thomas Frank is close to getting his key target in midfield

New Tottenham boss Thomas Frank relies on physical, hard-working and dogged midfielders for build-up play, as well as, to break up the opposition’s moves. He has been keen on adding a staple ball-winner in the heart of his team’s midfield- a job Christian Norgaard did for the Danish tactician at his former club Brentford.

The Hotspur Way chiefs have identified Palhinha as that man to do the dirty job in this system, and Frank would hope he immediately adds more steel and power to his midfield, which the Lilywhites lacked in abundance under former boss Ange Postecoglou last season.

The ex-Sporting CP man knows the Premier League well, so there should not be any adjustment time required and Frank would hope to see him hit the ground running at Tottenham. Now that Palhinha has successfully passed his medical, our fans await his official unveiling.
