Napoli chief comments on signing Manchester United star

Napoli and Manchester United have had strong links for the last few years, with the clubs regularly cropping up in the news together.

Most reports linking the two sides follow Napoli’s interest in United stars, having signed former United striker Romelu Lukaku and then-Red Devil Scott McTominay in 2024, starting off a run of interest in Old Trafford.

Over the following year, links grew between Napoli and United over the potential transfers of Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Harry Maguire.

In the meantime, McTominay was going from strength to strength, winning the Serie A with Napoli as well as the league MVP and Player of the Year awards.

This summer saw Rasmus Hojlund join his former teammate on loan for the campaign, now hinting a permanent move may be on the cards.

However, another United star could also be set for a move to the Italian champions in the form of Kobbie Mainoo.

The former England international has been struggling for gametime under Ruben Amorim and as such is looking for a loan move away to reclaim his spot in the national side.

As such, Napoli have been strongly considering a move for the midfielder, with Giovanni Manna now addressing the links.

Speaking to Sportmediaset, as reported by Alfredo Pedulla, before Napoli’s clash with Milan, Napoli’s sporting director commented: “Mainoo? I’ve always said we need to be very thoughtful and cautious in the January transfer window.”

He continued: “We have strong players out who will return sooner or later. We need to make the right assessments, wait for the news in the next few days and then see what happens.”

Whilst this doesn’t strictly confirm the interest in Mainoo, it also doesn’t deny it either, showing that the Italian side are looking to be cautious in the winter transfer window.
