Joshua Zirkzee could be on his way out of Manchester United this January in the prospect of further game-time.
The arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko last summer have pushed Zirkzee out of United’s starting lineup, limiting his game-time.
At 25, regular game-time is arguably essential for the forward if he is to make the right developments and improve his playing.
With that in mind, a number of links to other clubs have previously been made including Napoli who were said to be in talks with Zirkzee’s camp over a possible move.
Napoli themselves have struggled at the striker position with former United frontman Romelu Lukaku playing just seven times last season whilst Rasmus Hojlund has been trusted to lead the line.
Aiming to improve the depth and quality of their squad, Napoli have now made renewed contact for Joshua Zirkzee.
That is according to Area Napoli, who have said the Serie A giants have been closely monitoring the forward’s developments with tentative discussions taking place between Manchester United and Napoli.
Importantly, head coach Massimiliano Allegri has expressed a positive opinion on Zirkzee, according to Area Napoli, increasing the chances of a possible move actually occuring.
Whilst discussions appear to be at their initial stage, this can be seen as a step in the right direction for both Manchester United and Joshua Zirkzee in securing the forward’s next club.
Whether he goes to Napoli or not remains unclear, but a wider point is now clear: there is still clear interest for Zirkzee in the transfer market. That is important, especially as the January transfer window looms closer.
A move to Napoli could ultimately give Zirkzee what he needs, more game-time, whilst allowing Manchester United to reassess their attacking options.
With Allegri keen and with discussions already in place, the next couple of weeks could prove pivotal in determining the forward’s future.
For now, though, both Manchester United and Joshua Zirkzee must wait to see if Napoli’s initial interest develops into a more substantial offer.
