Napoli only got a small reprieve from their season-long injury crisis, as Amir Rrahmani got seriously hurt again shortly after coming back. The defender suffered a high-degree left biceps femoris strain during the long sprint that ended with him fouling Wesley in the box in the Roma fixture. He’ll miss at least two months, Corriere dello Sport informs.

The Montenegrin defender is the fourth Partenopei pillar to sustain a very severe thigh injury after Romelu Lukaku, Kevin De Bruyne, and Frank Anguissa. Instead, Giovanni Di Lorenzo will be out for a while due to a knee sprain and a toe surgery to fix a fracture he had been playing through.

Napoli is confident Scott McTominay will return in short order. He has been tending to a tendon inflammation between his glute and hamstring. He’ll be a late call for the upcoming Atalanta tilt. Anguissa is now dealing with back spasms. His timetable is up in the air.

De Bruyne is nowhere near being ready to play, but he’s expected to return to Italy later this week. He rehabbed in Antwerp after undergoing surgery four months ago. Like Lukaku, he’ll try to gear back into shape ahead of the World Cup.

Our Take on the Napoli Injury

They’ll have to take a hard look at their methods, because so many big problems in the same area can’t be a coincidence.

It might be time for them to move on from a three-man back line. They are very depleted there, and Alessandro Buongiorno and Sam Beukema have been shaky. However, with Alisson Santos looking good off the bat and Giovane settling in, they have the horses for 4-3-3 or something similar.
