Napoli vice president Edoardo De Laurentiis blamed the ‘Lega Serie A and StatSports’ for the injury to defender Alessandro Buongiorno.

The Italy international limped off during the 3-2 victory over Pisa at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Monday evening, and has been diagnosed with a low grade lesion to the long adductor in the left thigh.

It is believed this will rule him out of the upcoming match against Milan at San Siro in Serie A, as well as the upcoming Champions League encounter with Sporting CP.

Napoli were not in Europe last season and were eliminated early from the Coppa Italia, so were able to focus all their attention on Serie A, pipping Inter to the title.

Napoli vice president hits out at Lega Serie A

Now they are dealing with a packed fixture list and it has not gone down well with vice president Edoardo De Laurentiis, son of President Aurelio De Laurentiis.

“It is unacceptable not to put the necessary data at the disposal of professionals and fitness coaches,” wrote De Laurentiis on social media.

“Without strategic information, we cannot develop the necessary algorithms to preserve the health and performance of the players. Buongiorno’s injury is just yet more proof: the responsibility lies with the Lega and StatSports.”

The Napoli chief is referring to the fact that the Lega Serie A works with StatSports to provide the official figures on data such as distance travelled and average speed of players in their matches.

However, La Gazzetta dello Sport points out the Lega does not give statistics it feels might benefit certain clubs when choosing players.

Buongiorno had a similar adductor injury in his right leg last season, where he was forced to miss eight games.
