Even more than two decades after his final NBA game, Michael Jordan is still setting the standard when it comes to making money off the court. In 2025, Jordan remains the most powerful commercial brand in sports, continuing to earn hundreds of millions through his partnership with Jordan Brand and widening the gap between himself and other global icons like Tiger Woods, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Lionel Messi.
While he retired from professional basketball 23 years ago, Jordan’s influence has barely slowed down, proving that his legacy is not just about championships and highlights anymore. It is about building a business empire that still dominates the sports world long after his playing days ended.
According to Sportico who shared the numbers on X, “Michael Jordan earned more than any active or retired athlete in 2025, pushing his career earnings to $3.28 billion, or an inflation-adjusted $4.5 billion.”
While current stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Tiger Woods continue to bring in huge money, Jordan still sits comfortably above all of them. Reports estimate he made roughly $275 million in 2025 alone, with the overwhelming majority coming from the Jordan Brand and his long-running partnership with Nike.
That is what makes his business success so unique. Most athletes see their earnings slow down once they stop playing, but Jordan’s brand has only become more valuable with time. His shoes, clothing and lifestyle products remain incredibly popular across multiple generations, even among people who never watched him play.
Jordan’s reach also extends well beyond sneakers. He has ownership ties in NASCAR through 23XI Racing, investments in sports betting and tequila, and still holds a stake in the Charlotte Hornets after selling control of the team a few years ago.
All of it has helped push his career earnings to levels no other athlete has reached. More than two decades after his final NBA game, Jordan is still proving that his real legacy is not just what he did on the court, but the business empire he built after it.
