The transfer window is closed, but Manchester United continue to do deals to strengthen their operations.
Having focused the summer window on midfield recruitment, signing Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and Carlos Baleba, United’s depth in the middle of the park appears strong.
That work added to signings completed last summer, focusing on adding attack-minded players, with some hinting that next summer’s recruitment could be dominated by defensive signings.
Whether that does occur remains unclear although, away from signings, the club are continuing to complete appointments and hirings that can strengthen United’s behind-the-scenes operations.
Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Gavin Beith had joined Manchester United to support Eva Olid’s coaching inside the women’s team.
Announcing his appointment as a consultant, Neil Welch has now took to Instagram. Publishing a photo of his new work badge, featuring his photo and work title, it remains unclear how long he will be appointed by the club.
“Really enjoying the start to the season and the opportunity to work with the staff and players at Man Utd,” Neil Welch said on Instagram.
“It’s a cool project with great people helping to weave biomedical assessment into the performance and rehab fabric”.
With his appointment now confirmed, focus will switch towards the work that will continue over the coming weeks.
His work, in blending biomedical assessment into performance analysis and rehabilitation, is crucial in helping the club ensure that players recover quickly and are fit to play across the course of an entire season.
Whilst the work is not usually seen on-the-field explicitly, it is often important to players behind the scenes.
Welch’s appointment is the latest showing in Manchester United’s continuing effort to prioritise player recovery, an effort that is essential in the increasing demands that football desires.
