Inter captain Lautaro Martinez wrote another page in the club’s history during Saturday’s 2-0 win away to Cagliari.
The Argentine striker struck early to put his team in front, netting his 12th goal in 12 career appearances against the Sardinian side.
It was not just another decisive moment from the Nerazzurri’s captain.
Lautaro’s strike was also his 117th in Serie A for Inter, moving him into the top five scorers in the club’s league history.
In doing so, he surpassed Sandro Mazzola and closed the gap on legends such as Alessandro Altobelli, István Nyers, Benito Lorenzi and Giuseppe Meazza.
The Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, highlighted the significance of the milestone, noting that Lautaro is now just 11 goals behind Altobelli’s tally of 128.
Above him are Nyers on 133, Lorenzi on 138, and Meazza’s record of 197.
With his contract running until 2029 and his role as the focal point of Inter’s attack secure, the Nerazzurri captain has time on his side to climb further.
His performances against Cagliari, in particular, underline his ability to deliver in big moments and sustain his remarkable scoring rate.
