Cristhian Mosquera was arguably Arsenal’s biggest positive in their 1-0 loss to Liverpool.
Not named in the starting line-up, the young Spaniard was thrust into action after William Saliba picked up an injury, a true baptism of fire at Anfield.
Unfazed by the venue: Anfield. Unfazed by the occasion of facing Liverpool, one of the Premier League’s most dangerous sides. The 21-year-old stepped in and impressed.
He never looked out of place and handled the pressure admirably, filling in for the irreplaceable Saliba with composure and confidence.
It begs the question: what is the secret behind his promising start to the season?
Fortunately, Mosquera is not keeping fans guessing.
“When I made the change, I knew I was joining one of the best teams in the world, with the best players. I knew I would have to compete, and it would not be easy,” he told Cadena SER, reflecting on his move to Arsenal.
He added:
“Arteta is very happy with me. He is very close and is helping me a lot, along with the coaching staff. When you arrive somewhere new, you have to adapt quickly to a new playing system.”
Watching Mosquera, it is clear he is a perfect fit for Arsenal.
Credit to the club for spotting his talent, and praise to Mikel Arteta for already getting to work on nurturing it. The way the Arsenal manager is helping him reach his potential is yet another example of his strength as a man-manager, one of the key reasons his Arsenal project continues to flourish.
Hopefully, Gooners will continue to get the best of Mosquera. Because what we have witnessed so far feels like just the tip of the iceberg.
It is not yet clear whether Saliba will be fit after the international break, but even if he is not, Arsenal now have Mosquera, who can be relied upon at RCB. The anticipated timeline for Saliba’s return looks like a minimum of 2-3 weeks.
