A new Chelsea signing this summer has explained why he has chose to join The Blues over Newcastle United this summer.

Chelsea signed a number of top players over the summer to add to and improve the squad – some of them are already proving to be very good additions.

Joao Pedro has had an incredible start to his career at Chelsea, really hitting the ground running and becoming a very important player in this Blues side.

He’s been scoring goals for fun and assisting as well, and he will need to step up now as well as we have lost Liam Delap to injury for at least 6-8 weeks and maybe even longer. It’s far from idea, and Chelsea have also recalled striker Marc Guiu to help with that as well.

But Chelsea were not the only team who were in for some of the top players they signed, including Pedro. Newcastle United also wanted to sign Pedro this summer, but he chose to go to Chelsea.

Toon were in for Pedro

In Pedro’s interview with The Evening Standard today, he says:

“When I was in Brighton, I was missing London a little bit,” João Pedro admits. “I had a chance to move to another club, but I chose Chelsea because it’s in London, it’s a big club, and I knew in my head it was the right move.”

The report states that that other club he is referring to is Newcastle, who failed with a £50m bid days before he joined Chelsea.

Lucky he chose us

We’re very pleased that he decided to join Chelsea come the end and he didn’t go anywhere else. Because I think he is going to be a huge player for us.
