Inter have confirmed that defender Matteo Darmian sustained a muscular problem to his left leg and will miss the upcoming matches.

The versatile player is coming up to his 36th birthday in December, but has already made two appearances this season, along with the FIFA Club World Cup games over the summer.

Darmian out for at least 10 days

A statement from the Nerazzurri medical staff announced that he was diagnosed with a strain of the soleus muscle in his left leg.

He played in Inter’s friendly with Atletico Madrid in Libya.

His condition will be re-evaluated next week, meaning they expect him to be out of action for at least a couple of weeks.

That rules Darmian out of the Inter squad for Saturday’s Serie A trip to Roma and the Champions League encounter with Union Saint-Gilloise.

He should also not be ready in time for the Scudetto showdown with reigning champions Napoli on October 25.

Inter coach Cristian Chivu is also waiting on a recovery time for striker Marcus Thuram, who picked up a problem ahead of international duty with France.
