Manchester United’s vast global influence can not be understated with former players across the globe still making their impact at teams.

Whether it be Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr, Scott McTominay at Napoli, or another player, former Red Devils continue to impress in their relevant leagues.

The summer transfer window may see former Manchester United players across the world complete moves to better clubs and could see familar faces make their return to football in the pursuit of success.

Now, another one is looking to make his mark as he completes a move to New Mexico United.

Unveiling the signing on their official website, New Mexico confirmed the signing of former Manchester United defender Tyler Blackett until the end of the 2026 USL Championship season.

Commenting on the deal, Sporting Director Itamar Keinan stated: “We are thrilled to add someone with Tyler’s pedigree to our club.

“Tyler is not only bringing a wealth of experience with him, but also real quality and leadership to our backline. Welcome to the Black and Yellow Tyler!”

Blackett made his mark in professional football at Manchester United with him signing a professional contract in July 2012 before gaining more experience at Blackpool and Birmingham City.

He would go onto make his competitive debut against Swansea City in the Premier League during the 2014-15 season and made 12 appearances for the team during that campaign.

Further spells in England followed after his move away from United to Reading with his last playing opportunity coming with Rotherham United in the Championship prior to their relegation to League One.

Blackett appeared in the match against Celtic for Manchester United last year as both sides looked to raise money for Celtic’s Foundation.

But, a move to the American outfit presents his first competitive playing spell since the middle of 2024.

A move to New Mexico United provides Tyler Blackett with a new opportunity to prove himself in the remainder of the 2026 USL Championship season and to potentially secure a new contract should his spell with the side go well.

At 32, the former England youth international is approaching the end of his career with this spell at New Mexico potentially one of his last.

Focus may therefore be focused on demonstrating to supporters what his experience can bring to a side whilst also being focused on winning the first cup in the club’s history during the 2026 season.
