Real Madrid’s teenage signing Franco Mastantuono has hit the ground running in the Spanish capital, and on Tuesday night on an away trip to face Levante, notched his first goal for the club. Only turning 18 in August, his maturity has impressed as much as his talent on the ball.

Mastantuono settled in Madrid in July, but was unable to train with his new teammates until mid-August, when he turned 18, and his €45m transfer from River Plate could be completed. Speaking after the clash with Levante to Marca, Mastantuono said he was comfortable.

“I’m just getting used to a new league, a new team, a new life. I’m coming from Argentina, and it’s a big leap, but I feel comfortable and growing in confidence. This year is going to be incredible for me and for everyone.”

‘Bellingham has impressed me most’ – Mastantuono

Asked whether any of his teammates in particular had impressed him most, Mastantuono was quick to name England international Jude Bellingham, who incidentally is tipped to squeeze either himself or Arda Guler out of the line-up.

“Incredible player, Bellingham. Let’s see if we can play with 12 (laughs). He impressed me; he’s unique and a wonderful person. I’ve never seen anyone like him. A lot of leadership; he’s going to give us an incredible boost.”

‘Real Madrid dressing room is humble’

While acknowledging his relatively short time at the club, Mastantuono was quick to praise the working environment at football’s most glamorous club.

“It’s not like I’ve been here forever, but I do feel very comfortable. They’re teammates and very good people. It’s not easy to start a new life, but thanks to them and the club, it feels like I’ve been here longer.”

“The humility of my teammates [is what I’ve noticed about the dressing room], what good people they are. Carvajal, who has won six Champions Leagues and is incredible, the same with Kylian, Vini, Jude. Bellingham is the one who has surprised me the most; his hierarchy, his calmness, and his determination make him different.”

Strong start for Mastantuono

Before arriving, already there was talk that Xabi Alonso felt the Argentina international could be  a potential starter. Despite his youth and recent arrival, Mastantuono has come good on that faith, and hit the ground running. Talked up by Alonso in recent weeks, he has skipped over Brahim Diaz in the pecking order, and starting four of their six games thus far.
