Sandro Tonali has been targeted by Manchester United as the club look to identify a number of players that could replace Casemiro in the summer following his departure from the club.
The Brazilian international is due to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season, leaving United supporters to question who could potentially replace him.
Tonali has emerged from this speculation with initial rumours links between the two parties being made in February.
Further reports has since suggested that Arsenal are also interested in the Italian international whilst Real Madrid have also enquired.
CentreDevils also exclusively revealed that Manchester United has held talks with the midfielder’s representatives about the realms of a potential move to Old Trafford this summer.
An asking price has now been named with The Independent reporting that Newcastle United want close to £100m for the midfielder.
The outlet have also uncovered the Italian’s next steps should a move not happen with them adding that the midfielder will play his part for Newcastle in the coming season if a move does not happen.
This figure matches the one reported in February which claimed that the Toon wanted a figure between £80m and £100m.
Similar figures were wanted by Brighton and Hove Albion for Carlos Baleba who was linked heavily with a move to Manchester United last summer.
Should United decide to pursue a move following their initial talks for Sandro Tonali, it is likely that they may try to bring this asking price down to a more reasonable and affordable level.
Alternatively, the club may decide to pay it in installments to Newcastle which would mean that Manchester United would not be paying the entirety of the money in one big sum but instead in a number of smaller sums.
With the concept of Squad Cost Ratio to now consider, as well, which limit spending to 70 per cent of a club’s revenue, Tonali’s departure could be said to be beneficial for the Toon as they look to uncover what financial business they can do this summer.
The midfielder’s contract length and transfer fee currently calculates his Squad Cost Ratio to be £9m, which would be freed up if he was to be sold this summer.
Alongside the profit that Newcastle would make on a potential deal, the North-East club’s financial constraints would open up allowing for more recruitment this summer in key areas.
In the meantime, given Bruno Guimaraes’ absence, Sandro Tonali could be expected to fill in and play his part for Newcastle United in the closing stages of the season.
With transfer rumours swirling, the midfielder must ensure that these links do not impact his performance and must remain focused on Newcastle’s main target: to finish the league season as strongly as possible.
