Reports in Argentina claim that Juventus have agreed to hand Nico Gonzalez to Atletico Madrid, on loan with obligation to buy if certain conditions are met.

The negotiations have been dragging on for several weeks and the Argentina international is not part of coach Igor Tudor’s plans.

The original plan had been to make this an exchange with Atletico Madrid defender Nahuel Molina, but that seems to have been abandoned with the transfer deadline looming tomorrow.

Nico Gonzalez heading to Atletico Madrid on loan

Argentine transfer pundit Cesar Luis Merlo and Tuttomercatoweb both maintain the agreement will be just a loan with option to buy at the end of the season, making it an obligation if certain sporting targets are met.

Juventus signed the 27-year-old from Fiorentina initially on loan for €8.4m in 2024, with obligation to buy for a further €28.1m plus add-ons this summer.

He made just 39 competitive appearances in the Bianconeri jersey, scoring five goals and providing four assists.

If Juventus do manage to get Nico Gonzalez off their books, then they will make a late attempt to secure Edon Zhegrova from LOSC, but face strong competition from Olympique Marseille.
