Fabio Capello has urged AC Milan not to conduct a summer ‘revolution’ because the base to build from is already strong enough.
Given that Milan are ninth in the table and far away from the Champions League places, there is talk of big changes coming in the next few weeks. It starts with a new sporting director being hired, who will then want to potentially hire a new manager and put his stamp on the squad.
There are also some natural crossroads emerging regarding key members of the squad, such as Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez whose contracts expire in 2026. So, Milan could be barely recognisable heading into 2025-26, if some of these alterations come to fruition.
Capello has published a column in today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport in which he speaks about current events at the Rossoneri, urging the ownership to consider that there is already a solid platform.
“The key to the Milan of the future is one: insert two or three high-level players, who really make the difference. There is no need for ‘total revolution’, with eight or ten new additions. But a couple, yes, and wherever they are, it will be fine,” he said.
“Whether it is a great mezzala, or another very strong midfielder, a right-back, a winger who causes havoc. Not gambles, but players who already give ample guarantees. The basis is good, and it also makes you angry: if the Milan seen in the derby was the real one, why did they wait so long to show themselves?
