Aston Villa have joined several top European clubs in a battle to sign Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho this summer. The 20-year-old academy product is now surplus to requirements at the club under Ruben Amorim amid a thorough squad overhaul.
Many United players are not part of Amorim’s plan after failing to adjust to his tactical demands during last season. The Red Devils plummeted to 16th position in the Premier League, too embarrassing for a club of their immense stature.
After the Europa League final loss to Tottenham Hotspur, the relationship between Garnacho and Amorim suffered a lot of strain. At the same time, many fans want United to keep hold of the best talents produced from their prestigious academy.
However, the club is not enjoying the financial position that allowed them to nurture their talents and give them chances. As things stand, sacrifices will be made by United to make sure their net spending under Amorim remains in check.
While the Red Devils have a lot of vulnerable positions to cover this summer, they have already added key attackers. According to Fichajes, Villa have joined several top European clubs in a battle to sign United star Garnacho this summer.
Other clubs include Chelsea, Napoli, Atletico Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen as the transfer race for the young Argentine heats up. We recently covered that United and Garnacho have opted to part ways with the transfer valuation of £50.4m decided by the club.
Villa’s interest gives hope to United as they want to sell most of their undesired players as quickly as possible. Letting any outgoing player turn into a lengthy transfer saga will be counter-productive for the United hierarchy.
United cannot make any mistakes during this transfer window as they put together a team capable of playing under Amorim. As for Garnacho, United fans will wish him the best, despite the feeling that the Argentine had enough talent to represent the club for years.
