Oldham Athletic have confirmed a number of key squad decisions following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season.
Several players will be departing as part of their retained and released list.
The League Two side are continuing to reshape their squad after a positive campaign back in the EFL.
Dermot Mee, a Manchester United goalkeeper, is also set to be released this summer.
This highlights a wider trend of movement across English football as clubs prepare for the new season.
Meanwhile, Oldham officially signed former Manchester United striker Michael Mellon last summer.
He joined on loan from Burnley and has been playing under his father’s management, Micky Mellon.
It underlines the club’s recent links to players with connections to Old Trafford.
According to Oldham Athletic’s official website, multiple players have now been released, including a midfielder with past ties to Manchester United’s academy system.
The decision comes after a season in which he struggled to establish himself as a regular in the first team.
That player is Kieron Morris, who spent part of the campaign on loan at National League side FC Halifax Town.
The 31-year-old made a limited number of appearances for Oldham following his move from Tranmere Rovers in 2025.
He was subsequently sent out on loan in January in search of more consistent game time.
Morris began his career in the lower leagues but was previously spotted by Manchester United’s scouting network during his youth.
He even spent time on trial with the club before ultimately starting his professional journey elsewhere.
Over the years, he built a solid career, notably enjoying a lengthy spell at Tranmere where he made over 200 appearances.
His departure marks the end of a short stint at Oldham, with the club opting to move in a different direction ahead of next season.
Manager Micky Mellon also paid tribute to outgoing players,.
He thanked them for their contributions during a campaign that saw the club continue its progression after returning to the Football League.
Morris will now assess his options as a free agent ahead of the summer window.
His experience across the EFL and non-league levels are likely to attract interest as Oldham continue their squad rebuild.
