Manchester United chief executive officer Omar Berrada has shared his excitement over a major upgrade to the club’s infrastructure – and it’s closer to completion than many fans realised.

Omar Berrada was a significant hire for Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe as they moved to reshape Manchester United behind the scenes. He stepped into the role in 2024, replacing Richard Arnold and bringing with him a wealth of experience from his time at City Football Group.

His appointment signalled Ineos’ intent to establish a new era at Old Trafford, where the focus is not only on rebuilding the squad but also on modernising the club’s operations from top to bottom.

United have yet to turn the corner on the pitch, but the work being done off it tells a different story.

The Carrington training complex has long been cited as an area needing improvement, and under Ineos, a £50m project was launched to bring the facility up to modern standards.

The redevelopment has been managed by Foster and Partners, the firm behind iconic projects such as Wembley and Lusail Stadium.

In an interview with United We Stand magazine, Berrada confirmed that the new-look Carrington is set to open in August, just in time for the 2025-26 season under Ruben Amorim.

“August,” he said when asked about the opening date. “It’s amazing and the architects have done an incredible job. It’ll be a modern, elite performance facility.

“We’re going to be looking to move more people from Old Trafford to Carrington to create a sense of togetherness and unity.”

Carrington marks the beginning of an ambitious long-term project

The new training facility is a step forward, but it’s just one part of Ineos’ broader vision for United. There are already plans in place for a new 100,000-seater stadium, also being designed by Foster and Partners, with a projected opening around 2030.

Beyond Carrington, Berrada hasn’t shied away from addressing the club’s ambition to build the biggest and best stadium in the country. “It’s our aspiration and ambition to build the biggest stadium in this country and one of the biggest in Europe,” he added.

The stadium project underscores Ineos’ long-term approach, and though it will be years before fans see the results, the investment signals a clear intent to return Manchester United to the top of English football – both on and off the pitch.
