RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons faces uncertain future as Tottenham links get stronger

Tottenham need to bring in reinforcements in the summer if they want to start next season on a positive note. The Europa League success must act as a springboard for the Lilywhites to force a massive squad overhaul and bring in new players that could instantly elevate the quality of the squad. Some of the current players managed to help the club achieve the unthinkable last month, but they are not good enough to play a crucial part under Thomas Frank.

All the eyes will be on Daniel Levy now that the managerial situation at N17 is also sorted out. The Spurs chairman needs to be proactive in the summer and bring in reinforcements quickly. With pre-season just on the horizon, the Lilywhites are already playing catch-up in the transfer market.

There is no time to be complacent as the North London club aims to build on the Europa League success. One of the main reasons why Ange Postecoglou got the sack earlier this month was due to the inconsistent performances put in by some of the key attacking players. Now is the time for the club to back Thomas Frank and bring in new attackers for next season.

Tottenham want to sign RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons

Tottenham have enough players in James Maddison, Lucas Bergvall, and Dejan Kulusevski that could play the number ten position for Thomas Frank. But the club needs an upgrade on left-winger Heung-Min Son. The 32-year-old’s performances have steadily declined in recent seasons and he is also facing an uncertain future at N17. So, it is best for Daniel Levy to bring in a quality replacement for next season.

It was reported earlier that Spurs were interested in signing Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig in the summer. The Lilywhites are long-term admirers of him and want to bring him to N17 in the coming weeks. Now, the fans have received yet another update on the transfer saga involving the Dutchman. Speaking on the Market Madness podcast (via GiveMeSport), Ben Jacobs said,

“You have Tottenham, who could be one to watch as well. They’re going to be looking for a right-sided attacker first, but don’t rule out this kind of profile for them as well. I can only tell you about Spurs, who have made an active enquiry to just understand the desire on the player’s side and also the price. Nothing is advanced at this point, and it might be the kind of deal that happens a little bit later in the window.”

Ben Jacobs has suggested that Tottenham are one of the clubs interested in signing Xavi Simons in the summer. The reliable journalist added that the Lilywhites have also made approaches in recent weeks to know whether the RB Leipzig star would be open to the move. Jacobs also suggests that the deal is not yet ‘advanced’ and fans can expect the North London club to initiate concrete talks later in the transfer window.

Valued at £60m, the Dutchman will not come cheap. But if he performs as expected, it could prove to be a snip in the long run.

It remains to be seen how Daniel Levy goes about his business in the coming weeks. Signing Xavi Simons would be a statement of intent from Spurs as they look to kickstart a new era under Thomas Frank. The Netherlands international would instantly get in the starting eleven for the Lilywhites. This would mean that Heung-Min Son might be forced to sit out under the Danish tactician heading into next season.

Chicago Blackhawks reportedly set to trade 25-year-old goaltender to Stars rival, Edmonton Oilers

The Chicago Blackhawks, a crowded goaltending situation, and trade rumours involving the Edmonton Oilers have fans wondering if the Stars' rivals could soon upgrade their crease before training camp. With training camp approaching, Chicago general manager Kyle Davidson has five goalies under contract, including Spencer Knight, Arvid Soderblom, Drew Commesso, newly signed Stanislav Berezhnoy, and veteran Laurent Brossoit. Only two NHL roster spots are available, which has fueled speculation that Brossoit could be moved to a contender, with Edmonton emerging as a leading candidate. For Stars fans, seeing the Oilers potentially bolster their crease should raise eyebrows. Edmonton, fresh off a deep playoff run, is looking to avoid the same issues that hurt them late in the postseason. "The Blackhawks have too many goalies and not enough spots, and Brossoit's contract and experience make him a natural trade chip for a team like the Oilers."-Julien Trekker Chicago's goalie logjam and Berezhnoy's recent signing are detailed further at NHL.com. Dallas could see its rival upgrade as Blackhawks explore trading Laurent Brossoit Brossoit, 32, carries a $3.3 million cap hit for one more season. Drafted by Calgary in 2011, he's appeared in 140 NHL games, including time with Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Vegas, where he helped the Golden Knights win the Stanley Cup in 2023. While Chicago decides, Drew Commesso continues to push for NHL time after posting a .911 save percentage over 39 AHL games. For a deeper look at Commesso's performance, his full profile is on Elite Prospects. I think if Edmonton lands Brossoit or even Commesso, Dallas may have to plan around a deeper Oilers team come playoff time, especially given how tight the Western race looks on paper.

Knicks Predicted to Part Ways With Karl-Anthony Towns in Blockbuster Three-Team Trade

The New York Knicks are looking to make more moves to upgrade their depth as they figure to be one of the teams to beat in the Eastern Conference next season. Of course, the Knicks made their first Eastern Conference Finals appearance since 2000 last season and with the amount of injuries to top players in the East, the Conference is wide open entering next season. Because of this, the Knicks have emerged as one of the favorites to win the East thanks to their core led by Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns. Despite this, Sports Illustrated’s Jackson Caudell and Rohan Raman recently created a three-team mock trade that would see the Knicks move on from Towns. In the trade, the Knicks would add Jrue Holiday, Robert Williams III and a 2028 first-round pick via the Portland Trail Blazers while they would send Towns and Pacome Dadiet to Portland. The Trail Blazers would also send Duop Reath to the Atlanta Hawks in this proposed mock trade. While the Knicks are looking at ways to improve their depth, moving on from Towns would be a tough decision for them to make despite his struggles, especially on the defensive side, during the playoffs last season. It would also be a tough decision to swap Towns for Williams III due to his injury history, especially with Mitchell Robinson’s injury history as well and the Knicks’ lack of true center depth. While that may be the case, adding a veteran point guard in Holiday to the second unit could be a good addition to the Knicks’ bench and Williams III would also give them more size. Despite this, it is highly unlikely that the Knicks will move on from Towns this summer and likely into next season as they see their core being able to help them compete for a championship next season.

Kelsey Plum takes shot at Caitlin Clark after WNBA All-Star Game

On Saturday night, Kelsey Plum was part of Team Collier's 151-131 win over Team Clark in the WNBA All-Star Game, scoring 16 points, grabbing five rebounds and dishing out three assists. Following the game, the Los Angeles Sparks star was asked about WNBA All-Stars wearing shirts before the game that read, "Pay Us What You Owe Us." Specifically, Plum was asked about how that idea came together. "The T-shirt — just a united front," she said. "That was determined this morning, that we had a meeting for. Not to tattletale, but zero members of Team Clark were very present for that." Plum said it with a chuckle. However, she was sitting next to New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu, who rolled her eyes and said, "Didn't really need to be mentioned" before laughing. It was awkward, especially because Caitlin Clark, as well as all of the members of Team Clark, wore the shirts. If Clark didn't wear the shirt, you could understand some backlash. But she did. It should also be noted that Team Collier featured the president of the WNBA Players Association, Nneka Ogwumike, as well as the first vice president, Plum, and two vice presidents, Napheesa Collier and Brenna Stewart. It makes sense if they took on greater leadership roles in a statement like this against the league. Whether Plum likes it or not, the reason the WNBA has any sort of leverage heading into these negotiations with the league is Clark. She would do well to remember that the next time she wants to take an unnecessary shot at Clark, who is responsible for the greatest surge in fan attention the WNBA has ever seen.

Former No. 1 Overall Pick 'Not a Fit' For Sacramento Kings Despite Free Agency Rumors

The Sacramento Kings are in the NBA purgatory from a roster-building standpoint. They aren't good enough to compete for an NBA title -- with no clear path to get there right now. They also aren't bad enough to receive a high overall pick and a chance to draft a future franchise superstar. A former No. 1 overall pick isn't going to be the answer in free agency, either. According to a recent report from Marc Stein, the Kings are among the New York Knicks, Phoenix Suns and Boston Celtics as teams interested in Ben Simmons in free agency. Simmons could hypothetically fill a void for the Kings, who could benefit from the 2017 No. 1 overall pick's ball-handling and passing abilities, along with his defensive versatility. Simmons named "not a fit" for Kings However, the Kings might not be as interested in the 6-foot-10 guard as reports might suggest. In fact, he has been dubbed "not a fit" by Carmichael Dave on Sactown Sports 1140's The Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross, who is refuting those reports. "I know Simmons' camp has approached, amongst other teams, the Kings. I mean, we're talking like four or five teams. If the Kings were to bring in Ben Simmons, it would almost certainly need to be on a minimum deal, and it doesn't sound like that's what they're in the market for," Dave said. "From what I tapped in and heard was, it's nothing against him, just not a fit for what they're looking for. Not a fit for the culture stuff and all of that." Zach LaVine is a former All-Star, as are DeMar DeRozan and Domantas Sabonis. There is an obvious issue with those three leading the franchise, though. Not only does the rotation lack shooting, but they don't have solid defense, either. Does Simmons address one of those issues? Sure, he's a high-level defender. Does he address a backup point guard need? Of course. He can't shoot, though. It's been the leading reason for the downfall of his career. For those services, Sacramento would be silly to pay anything more than the veteran's minimum. If Simmons can go get that with another franchise, he should absolutely do it. The Kings don't need to pay any more than that to acquire the LSU product. The Kings will have a decision to make here, though, as they might not have other avenues to address the holes in their roster. Long-term, it's hard to imagine Sacramento makes any real noise in the postseason without first tearing down their roster and rebuilding through the NBA Draft.
