Napoli and Galatasaray are trying to reach a breakthrough in the Victor Osimhen saga, as reasons emerge behind the problem over bank guarantees.
The Turkish team agreed to pay the full €75m asking price, even if it will not be a technical activation of the release clause, but rather a negotiation between the clubs.
The Partenopei were even prepared to let Galatasaray pay the sum over five instalments, as long as they had sufficient financial guarantees that the full figure would be paid.
Today’s meeting hit huge obstacles, with the lack of a reliable letter of guarantee from a bank prompting Napoli to call a halt to the talks.
According to Sports Digitale in Turkey, Napoli are also worried because they have a bad history with Galatasaray in getting prompt payment for the transfers of Goran Pandev and Blerim Dzemaili.
Director Abdullah Kavukcu was meant to fly back to Istanbul today, but has delayed the journey in order to continue negotiations and try to find a breakthrough.
The meeting is a three-way affair involving Napoli, Galatasaray and the transfer intermediary working to represent Osimhen.
It comes after reports Osimhen would refuse to attend pre-season training with Napoli in order to push through the transfer.
The Nigeria international spent the last season on loan with Galatasaray, scoring 37 goals in 41 competitive games, along with eight assists.
