Parma will have to decide within the next few hours, or within the next few days at a maximum, whether or not to bring in a replacement for goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, with not an enormous list of options to choose from on the free agency market.
Suzuki will be out of action for at least three months with an injury to his hand.
There are some goalkeepers available as free agents, but some of them, such as Alessio Cragno, are recovering from serious injuries themselves. Other options, particularly the Italian ones, are considerably less convincing. We have reported that Parma have not made a move for the available Rui Patricio, either.
Parma are still evaluating a few other options, including Dimitry Bertaud, formerly of Montpeillier, or the 38-year-old Spaniard Vincente Guaita. They could still broaden the search.
For now, there is confidence in the in-house option. Edoardo Corvi, although it is worth noting that he has not played 90 minutes in several months.
And, Parma will still want to have another goalkeeper in the first-team squad from a numerical standpoint, as long as that goalkeeper is convincing, and can provide cover and support if needed.
