Since the start of the season, Parma have been vastly inconsistent. They have only earned three wins from their 14 Serie A fixtures; however, two of them came in their last three outings, at the expense of Pisa and Hellas Verona. Interestingly, these two victories ensued on the road, while they suffered a defeat at home to Udinese in between.
The Crociati currently sit 15th in the table, with 14 points from as many fixtures, a disappointing return for the young Carlos Cuesta in his maiden managerial role. Therefore, the home side will be keen to earn a result at Lazio’s expense and start putting some daylight between them and the relegation zone.
Lazio may have enjoyed a ressurgence in recent months, but their two defeats at San Siro to Inter Milan and AC Milan raised some question marks, with many naysayers feeling that Maurizio Sarri’s men have yet to truly turn the corner, despite beating Juventus in recent weeks, as well as the Rossoneri in the Coppa Italia.
Moreover, the Aquile have displayed a knack for dropping points. For instance, they were the better side in the second half against Bologna, but they ended up settling for a draw after being reduced to 10 men due to Mario Gila’s silly red card. Therefore, the Italian capital side is only 10th in the table, a position that is far below the club’s historic status.
Parma (3-5-2): Corvi; Trabucchi, Valenti, Delprato; Britschgi, Bernabè, Keita, Sorensen, Lovik; Cutrone, Pellegrino.
Lazio (4-3-3): Provedel; Marusic, Patric, Romagnoli, Pellegrini; Guendouzi, Cataldi, Basic; Cancellieri, Castellanos, Zaccagni.
This won’t necessarily be a thriller, but Lazio might be able to escape with a narrow win, especially if Taty Castellanos connects well with Mattia Zaccagni and Matteo Cancellieri, who is excellent at exploiting spaces on the counter.
66-year-old Sarri will be taking on a colleague who is 36 years his junior, so the veteran’s vast experience could prove vital as the match progresses.
