It feels like two minutes ago when Paul Pogba was dancing in a video with Stormzy after making his return to Manchester United in 2016.
The France international arrived at United under manager Jose Mourinho for a fee of £89 million, a world record at the time.
Pogba commanded the fee after a very successful time in Italy with Serie A giants Juventus, where he gained a reputation as one of the best midfielders on the planet.
After joining Juve from United back in 2012 on a free transfer, he would go on to play four seasons with the Turin outfit.
During this period, Paul Pogba recorded 34 goals and 40 assists from midfield. The French international wasn’t just scoring goals, but was doing the spectacular.
His performances in Juventus’ run to the 2013/14 UEFA Champions League Final meant that people were seeing a star on the pitch.
Paul Pogba also had his moments in a United shirt when he moved back to England.
However, these moments came few and far between as Pogba often struggled for consistency.
While Pogba was included in the 2018/19 PFA Team of the Season, but there was often frustration from fans that he could not replicate the output he showcased in a French national team shirt on a more regular basis.
Fairly or unfairly, Pogba’s attitude both on and off the pitch was also brought into question during his time at Old Trafford.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner’s time at United once again came to an end following the expiration of his contract in 2022.
Another reunion was on the card as a deal Juventus was agreed, putting pen to paper on a four-year deal.
Paul Pogba didn’t quite catch fire the same way again in Italy as the midfielder endured a difficult second spell in Turin.
And this came to a head when a failed drugs test saw Pogba receive a four-year doping ban, but this was later reduced to 18 months.
Pogba’s contract was later terminated at Juventus.
When it looked like his career was going to end on a low, a move to AS Monaco in the summer of 2025 followed, with the hope that he could rekindle his past glories in his native France.
And after a long time out, Paul Pogba is set to return to football.
Monaco have recently announced their squad for upcoming Ligue 1 match with Stade Rennais and their list includes the name Paul Pogba.
This would mark the end of a two-year absence from first-team football for Pogba, whose last game came in September 2023.
It’s most likely that he will start on the bench after such a long period out of the game.
However, it’s still going to be a moment in time when the former Manchester United star returns to the playing pitch.
After years of media backlash and issues with fitness, Pogba will hope that spell the beginning of a journey to show everyone just what he can still do on a football pitch.
