Paul Pogba scores on return from injury

Paul Pogba has taken another step in his long-awaited return to form, finding the back of the net after a challenging spell on the sidelines.

The former Manchester United midfielder has endured a difficult period since joining AS Monaco last summer, with injuries disrupting any real momentum.

His time in France has been heavily impacted by fitness setbacks, including a knee tendon injury towards the end of last year that once again halted his progress.

Even prior to that, Pogba’s return to football had already been stop-start.

After making his comeback from a separate injury in November 2025, the Frenchman struggled to build consistent minutes, with his appearances remaining limited.

That context makes his latest moment all the more significant.

Pogba’s goal was confirmed via AS Monaco’s official X account, marking his first strike in four years.

The goal came during a behind-closed-doors match, where AS Monaco faced Brentford’s Under-23 side in a friendly as part of Pogba’s gradual return to fitness.

Despite the low-profile setting, the goal itself was a reminder of his quality, struck from distance in trademark fashion.

His situation at French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco remains uncertain.

Earlier this year, we covered that CEO Thiago Scuro confirmed that discussions regarding his long-term future will take place at the end of the season.

Interest from elsewhere had also never disappeared.

In February 2026, it was revealed that the current UEFA Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain had once explored the possibility of signing Paul Pogba, highlighting his reputation across Europe.

Around the same time, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner also spoke openly about his struggles, admitting he had been suffering “mentally” during his time away from football.

This latest goal may not carry competitive weight, but it represents a small yet important milestone in what has been a difficult journey back.
