Paul Pogba sends emotional goodbye message after contract terminated
USA TODAY Sports via Reuters Connect

Paul Pogba has experienced some of the greatest highs and most difficult lows in football during a career that has taken him across England, Italy and France.

The midfielder first emerged at Manchester United as a teenager before leaving for Juventus in 2012, where he developed into one of the most highly-rated midfielders in world football.

Pogba won four consecutive Serie A titles during his first spell in Turin and helped Juventus reach the Champions League final in 2015.

United then brought him back to Old Trafford in 2016 for a then-world-record transfer fee.

During his second spell in Manchester, Pogba made 226 appearances across all competitions, scoring 39 goals and helping United win both the Europa League and League Cup in his first season back.

His international career produced an even greater achievement, with Pogba playing a crucial role as France won the 2018 World Cup and scoring in the 4-2 final victory over Croatia.

However, injuries increasingly disrupted the latter stages of his career.

After leaving United in 2022, Pogba returned to Juventus before eventually joining Monaco in 2025 following his lengthy absence from competitive football.

His spell in the principality proved frustrating, with fitness problems restricting him to only six competitive appearances before Monaco and Pogba mutually terminated his contract.

Paul Pogba sends emotional Monaco farewell

Following confirmation of his departure, Pogba has now taken to Instagram to publish an emotional goodbye message to Monaco.

The former Manchester United midfielder thanked the club’s president, staff, teammates and supporters for their trust and backing throughout his time there.

“It wasn’t the journey I had imagined, but this is where I found my way back onto the pitch, and for that I’ll always be grateful,” Pogba wrote.

He added that Monaco will “always hold a special place” for him as he closes another chapter of his career.

Although the move did not produce the comeback Pogba would have hoped for, it did allow the World Cup winner to return to competitive football after more than two years away.

The 33-year-old is now a free agent, leaving considerable uncertainty over what comes next for one of the most naturally gifted midfielders of his generation.
