Paul Scholes has said he would have signed one Manchester United-linked player “tomorrow” if given the chance during the summer window.
Last Saturday, Ruben Amorim picked up his first win in the 2025-26 Premier League, though it came after a difficult start in the league
Following their 3-2 victory over Burnley at Old Trafford, the Red Devils entered the international break in ninth place.
Amorim got another boost in early September when the club completed their fifth and final signing of the transfer window.
The Red Devils added a new goalkeeper for the Portuguese coach, with Senne Lammens joining from Royal Antwerp on deadline day.
United have agreed an initial fee of £18.1m with the Belgian club, with additional add-ons included in the deal.
Paul Scholes has given his take on Manchester United’s situation after Gianluigi Donnarumma joined Manchester City from PSG
Over the summer, Man United were linked with several goalkeepers, including PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma and Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez.
In the end, they decided to sign Lammens from Royal Antwerp and moved away from their reported interest in the Argentine goalkeeper.
Although United had shown interest in Gianluigi Donnarumma, the former PSG keeper ended up joining Manchester City on deadline day.
During an appearance on The Overlap, Man United legend Paul Scholes made it clear he would have gladly taken City’s new signing at Old Trafford.
“I think that’s a really strange signing for Pep [Guardiola].
“I love the ‘keeper [Donnarumma], I think he’s brilliant and I’d have him at United tomorrow, today, whenever.”
Ederson’s stint at Manchester City concluded with the arrival of Donnarumma, which led the Brazilian goalkeeper to transfer to Fenerbahce in Turkey.
The Italian goalkeeper signed a contract through to 2030, and reports suggest City paid around £30.4m (€35m) to bring him over from PSG.
Scholes described Donnarumma as an “unbelievable” player, considering what Guardiola’s side spent to sign him.
“For £40m [reported price], he’s unbelievable,” the TNT Sports pundit added.
“But for Pep, you’ve got to almost be able to play in central midfield as a goalkeeper.
“I think that’s the reason [Luis] Enrique is getting rid of him at PSG because he’s not great with his feet. I just don’t see him as a [Man] City goalkeeper.”
Following PSG’s stunning season with Donnarumma as starter, manager Luis Enrique opted to trust new signing Lucas Chevalier as the 2025/26 goalkeeper.
