Port Vale are getting ready for life in League Two after coming 22nd in League One this season, failing to escape the relegation zone.
The club had only just returned to League One after a season in the fourth tier of English football for a year as Vale have yo-yoed between the two divisions for most of the last twenty years.
Port Vale’s longest stint in League One came between 2013 and 2017 when they managed to hold their place for four seasons, however the League Two regulars are headed down once more.
As such, Port Vale have now officially released their list of retained players ready for next season, with seven stars who helped them gain promotion last season now leaving the club.
Within the list is former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Amos, as well as Mitch Clark, Ben Heneghan, Jesse Debrah, Sam Hart, Ben Lomax, and Funso Ojo.
However, alongside the promotion winners leaving the club, are recent signings Arron Davies, Tyler Magloire, Grant Ward and Andre Gray.
As for Amos, this stint marks his fourth permanent club since leaving Manchester United in 2016, having come through their academy.
While the 36-year-old has wracked up 424 career appearances, keeping 121 clean sheets, most of his time in his early career was spent out on loan spells.
Amos has had temporary stints with Peterborough, Molde, Oldham Athletic, Hull City, Carlisle United, Bolton Wanderers, Cardiff City, and Millwall, while having also played for Charlton Athletic, Wigan Athletic and now Port Vale.
As for where the goalkeeper will end up next, it remains to be seen, however with Ben Amos having been a League One regular, the 36-year-old could well look for another team in the third tier.
