Porto midfielder targeted by Manchester United and Liverpool

Manchester United are preparing for the summer transfer window with a busy agenda on the table to ensure that the squad is ready for next season.

The Red Devils, who will take part in the Champions League next season given their league finish this campaign, are likely to target the midfield position.

Casemiro is set to leave Old Trafford, with a tribute to the midfielder planned for Sunday’s game against Nottingham Forest, whilst Kobbie Mainoo has extended his contract at the club until 2031.

The Brazilian international’s departure leaves a huge void, however, and will need filling before the season starts.

Ederson has been linked to the club and reportedly agreed personal terms for a move to Old Trafford last week.

Other midfielders have also been linked with a move, including Tyler Adams who is also of interest to both Chelsea and Liverpool.

Liverpool have joined Manchester United in another transfer battle now with the two clubs targeting a move for Porto midfielder Alan Varela according to German Garcia Grova on X.

The journalist has also stated that the midfielder would be open to leaving the Portuguese champions this summer.

Varela’s contract with Porto runs until 2030 and he has played a significant part so far this season with two goals in thirty league appearances.

Alan Varela is not one for scoring goals, though, with just four goals in 136 appearances for Porto.

Interest from both Manchester United and Liverpool create the possibility of a battle between the two parties which may decide where the midfielder ends up this summer.

With the two club also intertwined in other battles for players across Europe, it is clear to see both clubs’ desire to improve. Only one will be victorious in this signing, however, and Manchester United will have to battle to ensure it is then.
