It’s perhaps Chelsea’s biggest game of the season so far today as the Blues take on Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and what we’re all wondering at this stage, a few hours before kick off, it what team Enzo Maresca is going to pick.
The Blues boss had the chance to rest the majority of his first team in midweek, meaning it should be a similar team to last weekend. But there were some bad performances there which could change things.
Robert Sanchez is certainly going to play in goal, plus Reece James at right back and Marc Cucurella at left back, barring any injuries we don’t know about.
Josh Acheampong and Trevoh Chalobah seem the most likely to play at the back, although it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see Wesley Fofana in the mix – his fitness status remains a mystery.
Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo should play in midfield as usual, and we fancy Maresca to add Romeo Lavia as a third man in there, with Enzo pushed forward.
He will be flanked by Pedro Neto and Alejandro Garnacho, although Estevao and Jamie Gittens are pushing hard for more chances. Joao Pedro plays up top again. The Marc Guiu experiment just never got going last week, and we reckon Maresca won’t continue with it.
That gives us a nice solid team, with plenty of attacking options on the bench for later in the game.
Thomas Frank spoke about today’s game and his admiration for Enzo Maresca, who he called “amazing.” It’s a classic case of manager bigging each other up before a game – we will see what happens when they’re on the touchline together tomorrow.
Estevao has spoken to Chelsea TV about his feelings on becoming a fresh Blue – as you’d expect, he’s full of wide-eyed wonderment.
