It was reported earlier this month that an unidentified Premier League player had been arrested regarding multiple allegations of rape.
According to Nick Ames of The Guardian, Metropolitan Police have confirmed an allegation related to a reported June 2021 incident has been dropped. Two other allegations are still being investigated, but that player's club said in a statement shared on Friday that the footballer will remain available for selection until further notice.
Like the player, the club has not been named.
"As stated previously, we have confirmed that the player denies the allegations," the club explained in its statement. "The police have issued a statement saying they are not taking any further action on one of the allegations and the player has had his bail extended pending the outcome of their inquiries. There have been no charges laid and the player can fulfill his professional commitments.
"We take our commitments and responsibilities seriously and have followed our safeguarding policies and procedures. We will keep this matter under close consideration and will review further if circumstances change."
The individual had his bail extended from August until October and has already appeared in preseason exhibition contests. Ames added the player will immediately be suspended by his club if charged.
The Guardian previously reported the club in question was made aware of a rape allegation against the player last fall.
